The AHA boxes are child-friendly kits that sensitize childrento the sustainable millennium development goals. Influencing the coming generation is one of the most relevant ways of countering climate change, war and poverty. These young leaders once they understand the challenges our world is facing would be better equipped mentally to deal with them at a later stage.
Each kit is targeted towards a sub-goal and contains 10-15 activities that help explain the concept in different ways. The kits are generic and have visualizations that can be used across cultural and country barriers. The activities however ask the child to work with the environment around them whether it’scollecting soil samples from outside their homes or noting the progress of a plant growing in their area.
The project was also conceptualized with the vision of hiring people from disadvantaged groups for the formation of the kits. Manthan created Differently Abled Designers, a special unit of differently-abled designers who were hired and trained in design and communication to help carry out the visual work for the boxes. For the packing of kits, we trained women from the city slums after carrying out extensive surveys to provide them with livelihood. Thus the product from its manufacturing stage to its usage among children benefits the entire community.
